Portland (Maine) : A city of Islands.... And eye catching lighthouses.
With the one day of visit I really felt in love with this city. This is well know destination for the travelers in summer. Its open for lot of festival and activities.
Portland is the capital of Maine state which is one of northern state of US and shares the Canada border. But in Maine Portland is southern side and which is just 3 hrs from boston. As it is bay area the so Cosco bay is very famous. Lobster festival is one of the well known festival here. Portland has so many lighthouses.
How to reach : From Boston
1. Take a flight from boston
2. By road : Take I-95 towards North (approx 2 and half hour 112 miles)
3. By sea : you can take cruise from Boston or providence town.
Places I visited :
1. Two light state park (and Light house.)
2. Cosco bay line ferry (short 2 hr.)
3. Portland Head light house.
Here is description of each point I visited. You can visit others points (other lighthouses/ferry tours if time permits.)
1. Two light state park.:
This is just shore line of the Atlantic ocean. This is a small park and further 1 mile from this park you can reach to the Two light state light house. There is no permission to go close to the lighthouse you can see far from it. Park is small which has benches at the cliffs of the shore as well inside park. There are some forest towers as well to arrange small parties. The entry fee for this park is ~$14. This park is very good for campaigning. We took our lunch there around 12:00.
2. Cosco bay line ferry:

We took 2 and half hr ferry which goes to different island and comes back. There are no major activity while you on board of this ferry. For other activities you can check with the other vendors which are just side by of this port. For e.g like group tour, sunset tour, lobster tour etc. The ferry will show you the RAM island, bug light, cosco bay, many small island (you can drop down as well and spend some time on that island and pick up the next ferry which is going back to the Portland. Near to ferry terminal during weekend and summer season parking is major problem I fill, and that cost me $18 extra if the ferry terminal parking is full.
3. Portland head Light hosue: (Cape Elizabeth)
This is world famous and most scenic photogenic lighthouse in the world. I know you will definitely love this place. Around the light house small beach and cliff walk is also there. Reserve your 2 hr of your day to spend here. The cliff walk is amazing. The light house is awesome you can go close to this lighthouse. The park near to this light house is also very good.

This is what I spent my day. I like the ferry tour and the Portland head light house these 2 places are worth to visit the portland. We started from there after dinner (9pm) and came back to home arround 12 :30 am. ( 2 breaks in between).
