Fun in Cherry picking and eating.......: Tougas Farm North-borough
I am well known in Agri tourism because my father was in agriculture department and many agri farms I visited in India along with him. I am basically from Pandharpur (Maharashtra India) and around my city I see there are many agri farms of Mango, sapota( Chiku), pomegranate coconuts and most importantly grapes.
But when I came to US I never thought that I can come across the agri tourism here as well. And one day one of my friend informed me about the Tougas farm so we visited the Tougas Farm and I surprised to see the way of agri tourism here.(in fact there are many farms but Tougas will offer tourism). They have around $7/adult entry fee depending on which fruit you want to pick it up. During summer they have options to pick up cherries, raspberries, blueberry and off course strawberry. In August to October time frame they have Apple, Green apple, Pumpkin etc.
It was a sunny day and we started from home around late afternoon and reached there in half an hour. Crowd was there as usual as that was the peak time for all the berries to pick. We paid entry fee and condition is that they will give you small bucket to pick your selected berry (I picked up cherry) and that cherry filled bucket is free of cost while coming out from the farm. If you pick more you have to pay around $3/lb.
Generally 1 hr will require to pick up any cherries from the farm. So they took us into the farm where the cherry plantation was made. They have different plantation sections for different cherries/beries. And I can't controlled myself to start eating the cherries which are so sweet and swore but test of that cherries are amazing. Below are the actual cherry at plantation site.
I know it is too much tempting. I ate the cherries like anything which I never ate before in my life.... ;). Whatever you ate the cherries inside farm it is free of cost and we picked up the cherries outside as well paid for the extra cherries that I picked. I loved a lot the concept of agri tourism and beside the farm they have rest rooms, cafeteria, play area for kids, animals. I like the way of attracting the people and engaging quality time of us. Kids also will enjoy you will also enjoy and most importantly you will eat the tempting cherries and other fruits depending on your choices.
After all what you want food fun and spending your quality time with Family. So guys here is my experience on cherry picking and agri tourism. Even if you are in India promote the agri tourism so that our farmer also will think out of the box......
